Thanks very much to Jennifer Stoddart for writing this letter. As a software developer I find there is often a disturbing lack of understanding in government about technology issues, so reading a well-informed and sensible position on the issue was a pleasant surprise.
I was also surprised to find this blog while searching for contact information to send my thanks. Thanks.

Hello Ms. Jennifer Stoddart.

First I want to say that when I read this letter, I was very, very impressed. A realization of just one issue that has occurred due to the DCMA in the USA. Also the fact that with laws like the DCMA, it is so easy to be prosecuted for trying to protect yourself.

I wanted to thank you for showing me that there is hope for a fair and just Canada.

In light of your letter, I wanted to point out that IP addresses are used for tracking individuals as well. This is done with various server logs and other tools.

Now the E.U. is putting forward that IP data is also personal information.

Again, thank you for protecting our privacy.
